The ideal scenario for working remotely sounds great, right? Relaxed clothes, laptop propped up on your knees on a sofa and Netflix playing in background. What’s not a love story?
We would all be doing nothing if we all worked from home. Many self-employed workers will tell you that they don’t desire for their work to be in the same location where they spend most of their time. It makes it harder to separate the two.
This is why having a home office is always a good idea if your work from home. Today, we’ll share our top tips on creating the perfect space for you to work.
Find Out What You Need
It is always a good idea if you have a plan. Start by identifying exactly what you need for your office. You might be surprised to learn that the value of your home could impact what your house is worth. It’s worth investing the time in furnishing it.
It’s likely that you already own a laptop or computer. Is a printer necessary? A photocopier? Do you need filing cupboards? All this depends on your field. An accountant would probably need a filing machine to store important numerical information. While a graphic artist would need a larger desk and drawing equipment,
It’s all about understanding exactly what you need in this space in order to help your job go as smoothly as possible.
Dedicate a Single Area to Your Office
The key to making your home office separate from the rest of your house is choosing a dedicated space.
Epic Office Furniture says that you should establish boundaries between work and personal time if working remotely. This is vital for your productivity.
A perfect world would be one in which everyone had a spare place to set up their home office. It is possible that you won’t have enough space for your home office if there are no family members or you only live in one room. You don’t have to stop working at home, but this shouldn’t be a problem. You just need a little creativity!
Even if it is impossible to dedicate an entire room to your office, you may be able to use a part of the room for that purpose. This means that it is a “working only space” and should be treated as such. It doesn’t matter what, it’s all about keeping the space separate.
Light Up The Space!
It’s hard to find anything more motivating in a dark place – it either sends you to sleep, or makes you feel agitated during long sittings. Make sure that you make the most of your home office by lighting it up.
It is always a good idea that your home office is near a window, if possible. People who work from their home don’t have to travel as much, so it’s an advantage to have some form of outside access. A great way to connect to nature is by looking out into the garden. A great way to lighten up a space is by using neutral colours on the walls and mirrors.
If your computer is near a light source, make sure that it faces away from the sun.
Make it Yours
Last but certainly not the least, one thing I love about designing my own home office is the fact that you can make it your own.
Working in a standard office is not personal. You can personalize your home office as you please! Think about what motivates or inspires you. Also think about the things you find most pleasing. Houseplants are always a great addition to any garden, especially if it is not accessible by a window.
